A pedophile lashing out and injuring and killing an adult would have the public scratching their head. The public pedophiles are easy victims who seek out even easier victims. In a fight where the pedophile has a base ball bat and he's taking on a small woman the public would expect the small woman to win. Police know that they never meet any legal or physical resistance from a pedophile.

Violence perpetrated by a pedophile on an adult may add to the public's hate of pedophiles but it isn't something the public expects.
