Patronizing condescension is never welcome.

And you soon learn that not everyone claiming to be on your side actually is.

Even what you might otherwise want is unwelcome when its foist upon you when you don't want it. "Eat eat, you must be hungry.", tells you more about what the party making demands wants than about what the party on the receiving end actually wanted.

When its clear that declining the offer of assistance gets the "hero" upset, then you know that respect was never part of their agenda.

Further, crusader types in RL are a recognizable threat to girls.

The typical batterer often first tips his hand as an overzealous "defender" ready to keep her "safe" from any other attentive male. Aggressive "protection" particularly backed by verbal violence and the reality or threat of physical harm will soon be turned on any "competitor" he feels encroaching on her. And eventually anything or anyone who threatens to destabilize their "relationship" including concerned friends and relatives.

Eventually her desire to leave him will be seen as a threat to all the "good things" he wants for her and indicative that she doesn't know what is best for herself.

Most guys have the luxury of being able to laugh off the other folks who believe that they can stand up for us better than we can stand up for ourselves. And of merely finding it silly that they believe that we secretly welcome their protective measures. But in a culture which treats children and women as objects to be locked inside a glass display case and guarded lest they become shattered and devalued there is all too much room for the party with boundary and anger-control issues to play the unwanted saviour.

On the larger scale, the true villains of history saw themselves as the defenders of their people. All the largest genocides were "protective measures."

The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding. --- Louis D. Brandeis

He who would do good to another must do it in Minute Particulars: General Good is the plea of the scoundrel, hypocrite, and flatterer, For Art and Science cannot exist but in minutely organized Particulars. ---- William Blake

( And yes, dismissing A GIRL for the sake of "girls" is ignoring the particulars. )

I am also reminded of Paul Johnson's description of Rousseau, one of the main architects of the Social Contract, who, "loved humanity in general but was often cruel to human beings in particular."

I have no room for those who would throw any number of girls under the bus for "girlkind" provided that they can do so one-by-one and dismiss them as statistically irrelevant to their crusade.
