Not all killing is murder. Self defence is not murder. Mutual self defence is not murder.

A valid question remains as to strategy and tactics: self defence is not necessarily best accomplished by killing all those whose actions make themselves lawful targets. There is much to be said for loving one's enemies. We would be better off if we can turn our enemies into allies.

But if someone were to kill those who are actively engaged in genocide, it would be homicide but not murder. (The courts whose members are also engaged in genocide would likely disagree, but of course I am speaking of ethics and law here, not how a corrupt legal system would view it.)
