On the issue of profiling, it seems to me that libruls have become such an entrenched part of the status quo that they have forgotten what they once knew about the double-standard of Amrikan justice.

Black folk are just starting to speak publicly to whites about the uncomfortable convo many parents have to have with their sons. The one that says, "You will be pulled over by the cops solely because of your race. Of course you will be angry, but don't let your anger show to the man with the gun. Of course you don't want to cooperate with this injustice, but don't resist the man with the gun."

Its a convo no white parent has to have, because they know that there's more leeway for getting upset and for backtalking an officer when you're white.

Now once upon a time in Amrika some white folks knew that if a guy had a beard and long hair he was a drug dealer who should be stopped and searched at every opportunity, or a dangerous Weather Underground member who should have his skull cracked at the first sign of eye-contact. They knew that short hair gets you through customs, long hair gets your baggage checked. That short hair means that you're merely waiting to meet someone in public, but long hair means that you're loitering for nefarious purposes.

Of course there's no comparison because the real radikals cut their hair to go underground.

But it is very odd that even though there have been no significant institutional reforms, and even greater expansions of police power, that what once the Left knew about the cops has become forgotten. And that so many of the intellectual heirs of the white Leftists who were harassed have started claiming that such harassment doesn't exist.

Of course much of this can be chalked up to the present "moderates" not being descendants of the former radikals. Rather they are the descendants of those who resisted change then, and they resist change now. They embrace the results achieved by those who dared to stand up. But cannot see any reason today to be a radikal. Their kind have always been among us to proclaim that progress was a great thing that brought us out of ignorance, but thank Ghod its finally over.
