A sad day in Pakistan

Posted by Markaba on Wednesday, December 17 2014 at 08:52:24AM

Members of the Taliban massacred around 130 children and a dozen adults at a school which serves the children of Pakistani soldiers. Even other Taliban groups have condemned this slaughter.

My heart is broken . . . again. All this violence. I don't care who does it anymore; I just want it to end, and yes, that applies to America.

And I learned something tonight: there are two major groups of Taliban in Pakistan--those who fight against Afghani insurgents over disputed territory, and those who fight within its borders and kill other Pakistanis. This group belonged to the latter, and many of the Pakistani people believe that the first group are good Taliban and the second group are bad Taliban. The problem is, as soon as you open the door to violence you lose control of it: getting the thugs to work for you is cool, but be careful about feeding that slippery thug system lest it come back to bite you in the ass. Also, these two groups--the so-called good Taliban and the bad Taliban--aren't necessarily composed of completely distinct people.
