"I need to know more about his culture"

It would help to know just which culture.

Probably the largest religious minority are the Christians; most of whom belong to the Armenian Orthodox church.

The dominant one in ancient history was Zoroastrianism. During the period when Muslim armies were conquering Iran, many of the Zoroastrians fled to India, where they formed the Parsi community that still are fire worshippers. Rocker Freddie Mercury is a famous Parsi.

Now I don't know about any imposition of Arabic pronunciation rules. In the long run, the modern Iranian people speak the language of their pre-Muslim ancestors: Farsi.

Linguistic note, Farsi is unbelievably oriented towards following its own rules and making sense. As with the simplifications that make English grammar so clutter-free, this is the influence that wave upon wave of foreigners have in expecting a tongue to make sense. But unlike the Viking invaders who reduced proto-English to what made sense, it was the laborers brought in for Xerxes' great building projects who took a language as tangled and nonsensical as its relative Pashtun and reduced it to something that looks like it was invented by a linguist.

We should remember that the Iranian people are not Arabs and do not speak a language related to Arabic or any of the semitic tongues. Their language is an Indo-European one, and is therefore closer to the dominant tongues of GC than it is to Arabic or Hebrew.

Further, while they ultimately adopted Islam, they went their own way with it. Theirs is the religion of a conquered people, not a conquering one. It is deeply sentimental and rather grief oriented. Their main religious holidays commemorate defeats of their own cause. And enough of their Imams were persecuted and killed that their line ends in this world ( though there is the belief that the "hidden Imam" escaped persecution by occulting out of this world. )
