Stranger danger is grossly over emphasized

It's good advice, when your shopping for a home service technician, to check out the references. license, and insurances. But I don't ID people I meet at the "Y" nor at my fave' pub. It's enriching to listen to new people and new ideas; and it can make a night laughing with a perfect stranger over light conversation or maybe taking the added time to trounce them, and vis' versa, at oddball pub video games.
Sadly, the most abusive acts against children, especially passive children, (including murder), take place in the school by fellow students who have absorbed their families' prejudicial values or in the home by parents, live in mates, and caregivers. Research conducted in Scotland in 1990 found that, out of the 89 families referred to the Dundee Royal Infirmary's Department of Child Psychiatry for sexual abuse and related problems, over a five-year period, the abuser was a stranger in only three per cent of cases.
