Good/Bad GM

Hello to all, especially to Spike. I am de-lurking to tell of a GM I had while in Denmark a few weeks ago.

First let me say that Denmark has more beautiful/higher concentration of LGs than any country I've been to. Talk about a feast for the eyes, all that blond hair and blue eyes! I highly recommend making a visit there. (As an added plus, they are avid nudists too!)

On to my GM: I was sitting at a bus stop one afternoon in Denmark, of course waiting for a bus. While waiting, I caught the conversation of a group of four American tourists consisting of two kids, their mother, and her boyfriend. The LG was 8 I'd guess, her brother 7, mother was in her late thirties/early forties, and boyfriend was in his late twenties/early thirties. My guess is mom took the kids away from dad at his expense under the guise of a family vacation, but her real motive was a love jaunt with her younger BF!

So, I'm listening to their conversation, and of course the two kids start teasing each other, and eventually the LG starts to cry. It was probably a typical brother/sister ordeal, and it was a cold, rainy day; the kids had probably been traveling for quite some time, so everything was right for them to be cranky. Well, the LG's crying didn't sit well with BF, so he takes her aside and gives her a little lecture. Of course, I listen to what he says. He basically launches into her, telling her how much of a pain she is to her mother and how he's there for her mother but not for her or her brother. He tells her that if she doesn't quit crying and being a pain, he'll buy one of those electric dog collars for her and will shock her every time she cries. At this point, I was feeling so bad for the LG! I mean, here she was, thousands of miles away from home, away from her dad, and with some strange guy in a cold, rainy country with a brother who likes to tease her. Knowing American society, her parent's divorce probably happened not too long ago, so the confusion about it all was still very much there. And, here was this guy threatening to electrocute her??? To be very honest, I was about to beat the living shit out of the guy!

After he got done lecturing her, he went and sat down next to the mom and her son while the LG cried her eyes out in the corner. After he walked away, I knelt down to her, and she looked up at me. I told her I'd give her a Twix candy bar if she smiled. Her tears quickly stopped and she smiled. Of course, I then gave her the candy and smiled back. I tried to explain a few things to her about love and divorce, but I couldn't say too much without attracting the attention of her mother. But, I got her from tears to smiles, so my mission was accomplished.
