I can imagine how you must feel. It really sucks. I know the situation in your country is very pedo-unfriendly, and I don't know the girl's parents, so I can't advise you anything. I can only say what *I* would do. I would by all means try to meet her mother (or father) and talk with them about it. I don't what kind of a relationship you have with her parents and according to this you can reveal HOW much you care for her. Still, you can meet them and ask them WHAT is wrong in your friendship. Doing nothing will only prove that there was something wrong with that friendship.
I would not send the letter.
But think hard first, before doing anything. Just remember NEVER say that you are a pedophile, a girllover or anything similar. When I said to Lucy's mum that I like her daughter MORE than any other child and I enjoy her company (saying it mostly in riddles and she guessed it always right), she was fine with it. Few days later I told her that I'm a pedophile and said EVERYTHING I feel for Lucy, I prepared some really hard time for her. She managed to make it through, but she is not an ordinary dumb person and I was just lucky. Friendship with a child is never seen as wrong. When you'll talk about it openly with them, they are more likely to understand and will not think there is something "dirty" about it. But choose words carefully, if you decide to do it ! "Play a strong friendship card" seems a good advice to me, as it tells the truth, afterall.
Whatever you decide, good luck ! You'll need it....
