Seeing Furby's plea for a girlfriend was my reminder to post this. A little while back, I ushered at a performance of Grease, with Frankie Avalon. It doesn't say "starring" Frankie Avalon, since he has just a small role. Anyway, this performance started with a dance contest among people from the audience. About 30 people went up on stage, including a number of lg's. The DJ selected 3 couples and 4 singles for the finals, followed by audience applause to choose the winners. The singles winner was a 6yo girl. She had won on her merit. She was not the only lg in the finals, and I had seen her practicing in the aisle before the show. After the show was over, she and her family walked past me on their way out of the theater. As they walked past me , I offered her my congratulations for winning the dance contest. Well, it was evening show, and it was approaching 10:30, so I suspect she had been sleeping at the end of the show. As a consequence, she didn't react much to my congratulations. Her parents thanked me for her.

At the end of the show, Frankie Avalon came out and sang some of his old songs. He finished with one that starts out with our collective wish:

"Venus, if you will, please send a little girl for me to thrill."

It's kinda funny. I'm old enough to remember when this song (Venus) first came out. I have heard it dozens and dozens of times. This time, though, was probably the first time I had heard it since I started posting here (about a year ago). The first lines of the song meant something entirely different to me this time. Context and timing truly change things.
