I read a minor literary debate a few years ago which posited that Rose, daughter of Laura,
actually ghost wrote the famous series attributed to her mother. The theory was based on
a couple of 'facts', which I don't have the resources to hunt down and verify, but indicated
there was a large difference between the notes Laura wrote and are archived, and the utimately published books. Since Rose Wilder Lane was a writer who had a certain
popularity in the 20/30's it was proposed that Rose heavily edited, or 'improved'
her mother's originals, or actually ghost wrote the stories. Rose did deny that she did
such for her mother, so, it remains a mystery...

However, Rose Wilder Lane became disgruntled with the 'New Deal' and 'Social Security',
and began to write more political works, and is considered one of the founding mothers
of modern Libertarianism. One of the theorized grounds for why would Rose promote
her mothers life stories, and further deny that she ghost wrote them, was these stories
present the 'rugged individualist' who overcame all obstacles without government
support... never mind the government giving away 'free land', and then supporting the
Army to make sure the european settlers didn't have to fear for their lives from the
'natives'... and never mind that most homesteaders, including I believe the Wilder
family gave up the land, and often the land was sold to the burgening rail companies...

But obviously, it would be a pretty damn rare 'young girl' who would look into this
sort of background material... one can only dream of such things...
