GM at the theater

I usher at a performing arts theater. Recently, they had a show aimed at kids, so the audience was a sea of kids (mostly lg's) and parents. A father and daughter came in early. She was about 7, a cute little blonde. She spent a lot of time going up and down the stairs (I was working in the balcony area). She wasn't getting in the way, and I was enjoying watching her, when I could. We were short ushers that evening, so I was running ragged trying to seat everyone. There were just two of us seating about 400 people. After we had been doing this for a while, and we were standing near the girl and dad, I said "Maybe with all that energy, she could help us take people to their seats." Dad and daughter both got a good laugh out of it.

At intermission, another patron came up to me and asked who she could complain to about something I had done (entirely unrelated to the lg and her dad). I told her who she should ask for, and she went on her way. At that point, I was feeling kinda bummed about someone complaining to a manager about me. Then what to my wondering eyes should appear - the lg coming back from intermission. She bounded up the stairs, landed on both feet right in front of me, gave me a big smile and a wave! She could not have known how much that lifted my spirits, and how much my spirits needed lifting then. I smiled back. Although not required, I stayed to the end off the show, just to be sure I was there when they left. Another big smile and wave. It made my night!
