Last Weeks AGM

I know I mentioned this in chat, but I realized that I hadn't posted this.

Beatrice and I went to see Pride & Prejudice. Excellent movie by the way. Anyhow, Bea usually sits closer to the screen. But we were having a Dickens of a time finding seats together and kept searching closer to the front.

Finally we find 2 seats and determine from the adult couple on the aisle that they aren't taken. Beatrice and I enter with me taking the lead as the lights are dimming. As I sit down the young lady to my left says, "Hi." I give a polite, "Hello" back. But usually strangers in movie theatres don't go through conversational niceties like this.

I decide not to stare or anything. But my peripheral vision reveals her to be a blonde with long hair, at most college aged. I'm paying attention to the movie, and occasionally making sotto voce observations about the cast to Beatrice. But I do notice the young lady to my left shifting in her seat partway through the film. And I've never seen anyone shift in such a way as requires them to glance at the guy on their right before :) I wonder what her date is thinking. But during the funny moments, the pair of female laughs to my left reveal her companion to be another girl.

Of course I'm caught up in the movie. And by the end, I'm weeping as is Beatrice. Again the young miss to my left is subtly taking this in. When the film is over and the lights come on, but we're still stuck in the row by folks between us and the aisle, the blonde asks what I thought of the movie. So Bea and I talk with her and her companion about the Colin Firth version, the Sense and Sensibility adaptation &tc.

Now that I can get a clear view she and her little friend both have braces on and can't be much older than High School Freshmen. I'm not used to teen girls striking up conversations with me out of proximity. But my theories are, that either this weepy romantic guy aroused their curiosity. Or more likely they perceived Beatrice as my GF rather than as a friend; which rendered their interest in me as very likely risk free.

Anyhow. Great movie. Good company to my left and right.
