The stereo type, which may or may not be true, is that females (women and girls) desire intimacy, love, and companionship more than the sexual acts themselves. Where as the men enjoy the actual sex more than just the closeness it can bring.

In part I'd blame this on society's attitudes about what a man is and what a woman is, though I do think a bit of that still comes from differences in hormones and such.

But I would agree that boys probably get interested in such things sooner or heavier than girls. Or at the very least, it's not as hidden as it is for girls.
