It was a 2001 Forbes article on the 'inflated' claims of the size of the porn industry at that time. Again a wildly inflated nubmer, 10 billion, was bandied about, but when the article writer finally sums up, the estimate for 'all types of adult sex sales', such as video rentals, toys, 'phone sex', etc. the number is closer to 4 Billion, and of that only 1 billion was attributed to 'Internet' porn.
Now, scaling for growth of Internet, scaling for inflation... was there any significant inflation in non-gas/tobacco prices... anyway, perhaps now the adult porn market is a 20-30 billion USD affair, and that includes all forms of sales.
Now, at the moment I'm totally unaware of an 'kiddie porn' shops on the local strip mall, truck stops, or the 'kiddie porn channel'... or even 'kiddie phone sex'... leaving the 'kiddie porn market' to be exclusively a 'Internet' or rare 'on site traveler'.
Hence the claim that 'kiddie porn' is a bigger market than adult sex, using many avenues of distribution, SHOULD be an immediate red flag of bogus rhetoric...
However, I have seen the same thing in the 'drug traffic bust'. A load of drugs are taken, and the news reports '10 million in marijuana/speed/heroin/etc' taken. These are use to justify why it is necessary to have a 'war', and why it is necessary to eliminate 'freedom', and 'security in one's personal property', to rid the earth of this scourge.
