You couldn't say that? I don't see why not. The majority of "normals" don't even catch on if you leave off the "I was enjoying her company" part. If you just smile politely at one of the first admonitions and say, "She seems like a lovely bundle of youthful energy." they very rarely suspect any interest on your part and, in fact, take pride in a stranger's appreciation of said bundle of delight.

Just my experience, of course.
