Aesthetics is not the reason behind circumcision. It was introduced to the US in the 1860's primarily as a cure for masturbation... and the quackery just kind of takes off from there.

I recommend that you read my post again. I made absolutely no reference as to the origins or previous reasons for circumcision. What I said was that, other than Jewish-centric realms, the modern (as in today) reason is an aesthetic one. Most parents have it done because of that very reason.

If you want to go into the history of circumcision, I'll point you here. Again, my commends had absolutely nothing to do with anything beyond the modern commonality of circumcision being aesthetic. Or, if you would prefer, tradition. It doesn't make it right, but I also said that as it is, it should be an elective procedure.

As I have said before, many females simply prefer the appearance of the circumcised penis. Is it due to commonality? Undoubtedly so, but it doesn't make them wrong for that.
