What a weekend! (GM's)

What a weekend I recently had! On Friday, I was mowing my lawn in the early afternoon. Along comes a girl about 8 that I have seen around the neighborhood, but I don't know her name or where she lives. As she walked by my house, she waved to me. I smiled and waved back. Okay, nothing momentous, but a good omen.

The next day, I ushered at a theatre that was featuring a stage performance that appeals to girls in the 4-8 range. What a great crowd! Several of them waved to me as they were leaving. During one intermission, I was standing next to a mother and two girls, seven and nine y/o. I casually asked how they were enjoying the show, and the girls said they were enjoying it very much. Then the seven y/o started asking me all kinds of questions about me and about my job. She must have asked me questions for about 10 minutes, and I was happy to spend the time with her. When her mother tried to get her stop 'bugging' me, I assured the mother that girls like her daughter made my job fun. She borrowed her mother's binoculars and stated looking at the stage. When she turned them toward me, I started making funny faces at her. That got her and her mother laughing. I was sorry to see the lights go down to start the second half of the show.

On Sunday, I went to my local indoor pool. After getting my usual workout, I just stood in the shallow end, watching all the kids play. One group of girls, all about 8, went past me several times, usually returning my smile, but always continuing their game of whatever they were playing. Eventually, one of them did stop and ask if I could go underwater like she did. I asked her to show me what she meant, and she went underwater for a few seconds. So, I went underwater for about 10 seconds. When I came back to the surface, she said "High fives!" She gave me a high five and went back to join her friends.

When it was time for me to go, I went into the locker room to shower. A few minutes later, two girls, four and six, got into the shower across from me, peeled off their suits and took a shower. They finished before I did, and joined their dad. When I saw that their locker was right next to mine, I decided not to risk embarrassing them, and waited until they left before going to my locker.

All in all, it was a great weekend to be a GL'r. It may be a while before I have one like that again.
