No other sexual identity group is vilified because a small number of the people who fall into it invariably commit crimes involving sex. The tiny number of rapists and molesters is a matter for criminologists, and should be only superficially relevant to the rest of us, the way it is for any other group.

If you concede that predatory paedophiles are a big enough problem that we as a group are obliged to deal with them because they tar the rest of us then you've already given ground. You should be asking what the hell it is that makes people feel they can get away with associating us all with an insignificant number of rapists in the first place. That's where you'll find our enemy.
