The main obstacle to get over is not necessarily earning back the trust of those with children--it's convincing them not to worry what other people will think of them for allowing their children to interact with you. It's the old 'guilt by association' thing. They don't people thinking they're unconcerned or negligent or even (gulp) pedophiles themselves.

But eventually, if they are true friends or family, they'll relax a bit. I mean, as long as you aren't trying to get the kids alone or take them off somewhere. But for a self-outed ped, that's about as good as you're going to get in the current environment. It's adequate for me. In fact, I prefer not to be alone with kids now anyway, because I want to make damned sure no one has any reason to accuse me of anything, EVER. The most alone I allow myself to be is in the child's room or in the next room with the child with the door fully open.
