I do understand why you had that reaction, to be sure. The thing is, girls their age might actually do that with no offensive intent, but then again they might. I have known girls that age to go either way, but in general it will much more often be innocent than intentional. 16 year olds, however, are more or less guaranteed to be doing that for the sole purpose of being rude and obnoxious. I'm sure that many of us, in the same situation, might have ended up reacting similarly -- especially given the other stress outside of the episode itself.

That said, this does happy to demonstrate one thing: preteens and tweens, while generally immature, are often more mature than teenagers and even many, if not most, adults.

I wish you luck in encountering these two again and having a friendly chat and possibly even winning some friends out of it.

Your initial reaction, while being (understandably) bad, was more than made up for by how you treated them when they came back for round 2.
