Had that happen to me...

Got on an escalater in a mall, going down. There was a little boy (maybe 5yo) and his grandfather in front of me. The little boy was unsteady on the stairs and fell down at my feet. His grandfather just looked at him and the boy was about to cry, so I leaned over and grabbed the boy under the arms to pick him up. As I lifted him, the grandfather grabbed the boy's legs and picked up him too and tried to pull him away from me. There was no way I could let the boy go or he would've gone head-first onto the stairs. For about 2 or 3 seconds, the grandfather subtly tried to play tug-of-war with the kid and I was just thinking "what the FUCK?!" Though it took me a couple of seconds, I finally decided that the old guy was an idiot. I took two steps forward so that I was right up on the old man and laid the boy's upper half on the grandfather so that he wouldn't fall.

It's always amazed me that, even though the old man wasn't willing to HELP his grandson, he was willing to risk HURTING him just to prevent a stranger from helping him up. What a fucking loser.
