I have an R/C car which attracts a whole bunch of kids. Also anything else that flies, makes noise, or has pretty colors. A job at a pet store, candy shop, or volunteer work at one of many outdoor events (though you mentioned you are shy so that one's up to you). Just be confident and give it time. Things will happen! I got a 14yo girlfriend out of my efforts who I knew since she was 12 :)
