While not all convicted statutory rapists are pedophiles, there are some that would be (and hardly immoral or harmful either, simply irresponsible) and perhaps the character is.

Of course this, like 'The Woodsman' with Kevin Bacon, has the whole negative spin thing. He should not avoid because it would be inherantly harmful, but because it is the law and it's doubly irresponsible to involve others in illegal activity even if they would not be convicted for it, they would suffer from the trial and inquisition, especially if you try to plead 'not guilty'. It rarely recognizes that.
