Your sexual desire is only a "dark secret" to the extent that society has made it a dark secret.

Sexual desire is NEVER anything to feel ashamed over. Hetero guys don't typically feel guilty for checking out women, do they? Sexual desire is a natural response; just because your attraction isn't in vogue doesn't make it any more inherently dirty.

You can find someone sexually attractive and still be altruistic, and if your attraction causes you to be altruistic, then that's a very healthy way of expressing it. Don't focus on what you can't have, just be content with what you can have, and enjoy it to its full extent.
