I agree with Markaba that this is more the result of the creations of our society than anything inherent. Relationships between children and their parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, and mentors all demonstrate a power differential, but these relationships are seen as positive because the power differential is used to see to the child's growth far more often than it is abused.


I will agree that culturally, what a child experiences varies enormously and their responsibilities just as much, but the growth process is unavoidable and all humans undergo it.

As far as relationships including a sexual element, the Greeks considered pederasty so important and beneficial for the younger partner that it became the norm in their society.


Looking back, we might justify anything based on what has occurred in history.
