I call Sarah "Sunny Girl" because her smile lights up the room. She's a late adolescent, now a college girl, but she's one of those rare ones who has grown up without growing old.

She's got a broad smile, a cute nose and a wide scattering of freckles. In form she's coltish and a bit gawky. She's not the petite Latina or Sephardic girl of my Aesthetic ideal. But Sarah makes an entire room light up when she walks in and everyone loves her; myself included.

I saw Sarah at work a few weeks ago on break from school. She said she'd be in town all week and she might run into me again. But it didn't happen.

Today I saw her again much to my surprise. I was headed to the employee cafeteria, but on my way I was doing a little shopping for a family Birthday when I saw her. I made small talk with her. And tempted as I was to forgo lunch entirely, I knew I couldn't avoid it.

However I saw her again as she left with her father. My head was almost turned away from the exit when I saw her cast a glance over her shoulder to look at me.

I was giddy. Was she really taking a parting glance?

Sure enough she looked again. As our eyes met, I waved and she waved back.

I was on cloud 9 for an hour.

I felt like it was another proof that Sarah likes me. I just wish I knew if she wants to be more than a casual acquaintance.

I have 2 paradoxical blind-spots. Firstly, I tend to project my romantic interest onto others. Secondly, because I'm cautious about this, I tend to be oblivious when my feelings are truly being returned.

Anyhow, that parting glance is burned into my memory.
