I understand your point, but it occurs to me that once it comes to this point, there is no good course of action - so I'm not sure such a sacrifice would be particularly useful.

In any case, children differ quite a bit in temperament, and it might be worthwhile to ask the child's opinion as to whether they wish to testify in court.
