Is it unfair? Almost certainly. But its a real part of hers and your environment. To disregard your environment endangers both you and her. If you Love her then you won't lead her into harm out of a belief that such harms shouldn't exist.

'Sides at the risk of sounding condescending, time is on your side. X number of years until their opinion is irrelevant and counting down. Its no fair in the here and now. But if you're talking marriage then you're talking about a future together that many years down the line anyway.
