The upshot of this is that there are fewer homosexual females than homosexual males, but females are more likely to be bisexual. This is in part because homosexuality is partly a political decision - which is to say, most people - even most homosexuals - exist somewhere along a spectrum as regards who they are attracted to. A declaration of homosexuality is not necessarily a total reflection of a person's attractions, as much as it is a statement of identity and preference.
Of course, the current understanding could be sabotaged by the toxic cultural environment. Lesbians are not hated to the same extent that gay men are, so same-sex-attracted females may not feel the same pressure to either conform to expectations or lash out against oppression, which would allow them more room to be their natural selves - and somewhere in between.
Our cultural understanding of sexuality also affects women differently than men. Women are expected to hug each other, to love to be around children, et cetera. Therefore, women who enjoy intimacy with women and children are not forced to confront their sexual feelings and are allowed to be themselves. For example, consider these typical exchanges:

Woman: Sometimes when I breastfeed, I have an orgasm. What's happening?
Doctor: Lots of women experience that, it's quite normal. Don't let it bother you.

Man: Sometimes when I'm around little girls, I get an erection. What's happening?
Doctor: YOU SICK FUCK! GET OUT OF MY OFFICE! YOU GODDAMNED PEDOPHILE! I'LL BE REPORTING YOU TO THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY!
Women are allowed more latitude, sexually, and so, unless they are an extreme outlier are allowed to go about their lives with little interference. They are told that their sexual feelings towards children are healthy and natural. They have no need for forums like this one.
So, in truth no one really knows for sure, but we have a some good hints as to what's going on.
