Even my Ex ( who didn't know I was a Ped ) saw how children react to me and observed that its because I treat them like people. ( Which, of course, they are.)

I think that Peds are more inclined than others to do so. Certainly once a child is 11 or so and their ability to reason, their ability to assume that others are persons too and their sense of justice really take root; then its easier to find a common ground, particularly when interests are shared. ( The age "11" is an approximation. But as a Step-Parent I was amazed to see Ellen hit those marks of cognitive development.)

My elfin Co-Worker "Q" gets along well with kids. ( And not just 'cause she resembles one.) And she tries to remind others of the importance of addressing a child directly rather than through its parents.

If the girl I saw walks up with a Classic Country album in her purse it'll be me doing the listening and asking for recommendations; 'cause any girl whose taste in Pop is that good probably knows something compatible in Country :)
