why we think we're attracted to little girls? we don't know for sure. maybe there's a genetic factor, maybe it's related to something that happened in our childhood. it's probably safe to say that the cause isn't the same for everyone. most of us had a significant (positive) relationship as a child with either a young girl, or with an adult; reflecting on that throughout adolescence/adulthood helped us tolerate thoughts of a child/adult romantic relationship. did that alone make us girl lovers? probably not.
the reality is that if you expect to understand an attraction to little girls by feeling the same thing we feel, that won't happen. the best you can do is understand why we feel this way (which is unlikely, since we don't know) or at least know the fact that we do.

i don't think rape is a correct behavior, because it violates someone's autonomy. if the child wants to have sex with an adult, then i wouldn't consider it an 'incorrect behavior' for a willing adult to comply; or at least that would be the case if it weren't for our society and laws. same thing with nude pictures. in general i think people should follow the law, unless they're practicing civil disobedience.
i think people should only go to jail for immoral behaviors; of course, different people have different morals.

i'm sexually attracted to women my age as well, just not nearly as much. it's the difference between thinking "yeah, she's attractive" and staring and drooling. why don't i settle for women, i'm sure you'd ask next? because being near little girls is more pleasurable for me. i don't have to have sex in order to experience that increased pleasure, i just have to look at or interact with them, in any fashion, even if it's totally legal and socially acceptable (gasp!)

oh, and my responses can't answer for all pedophiles everywhere, i'm sure someone will contradict me. we do have opinions ya know.
