I find him a little dense, though, wasn't he listening when you took your daughter to his house to say goodbye???

A real conversation, as best as I can remember it:

"You hear about that woman who was punished for being raped in Saudi Arabia? Those sure are some sick fucks in Saudi Arabia."

"Yes, a terrible case, but at least there was a public outcry, and it looks like there will be some legal reforms."

"They sure are some sick fucks."

"Of course, same thing has happened in the US. I know of at least a couple cases where women were put in jail because an underaged male raped them."

"Oh yeah, like Mary Kay Letourneau. Sick fuck. Wouldn't have minded being that kid, though."

"Not exactly. Mary Kay Letourneau wanted to have sex with that boy. I'm talking about women who were raped by teenaged boys, and then were convicted of a sex crime because it was immaterial that they did not want to have sex, because the boy who raped them was under the age of 18."

"Yeah, that's pretty sick all those teachers who are having sex with teenaged boys."

"No, I'm talking about women who were forcibly raped, by teenaged boys, and then were convicted of sex crimes, in the United States, and then were put in jail - in much the same manner as the case in Saudi Arabia, except that the American public doesn't give a damn about these women, unlike the Saudis who became enraged when they learned about such injustice."

At this point there was - just for a moment - a look on this man's face as if he briefly understood what I had said, and then he changed the subject.

So I'm not terribly surprised that her father wasn't paying attention.
