Recently I made a similar comment to some parents of a little girl at one of the schools where I work sometimes. The girl is a nine year old, and I didn't really know the parents, so maybe it wasn't the wisest thing to do... but it was really great... the mother especially was really flattered. I just told them their daughter was a really beautiful girl. Which she is! (She wasn't with them at the time).
