Ok, "trap" was the wrong word, implying it was deliberately set with the intent to do harm. I'm sorry. I should have said it was a "hazard" to prompt people for their email address, like a barbed-wire fence beside a playground, that should obviously be removed. It's a hazard that many new posters run into, and editing their email address after the fact, as the admins so often have to do, doesn't get the information back from whoever might have got it before the admin found and edited it. What benefit does it provide to prompt for that information, to compensate for the damage done to people who naively fill it out? Board software can be changed, as is obvious just by looking at posts from 2004 or earlier. I think this change, although slight, would make a very large difference in someone's future safety at some point.

But I keep forgetting, my ability to influence anything anyone else thinks or does is precisely zero, so I don't know why I'm wasting my time writing this.
