1) It does not hide your IP and other personal data which appear on the headers and that can be traced directly to you.

That alone could be a problem, but isn't insurmountable with other possible security measures.

2) If it is the address you normally use for other stuff, as is claimed to have been the case with him, then THAT is obviously a huge security problem.

In the end, no matter what your provider is, using the same address for mailing with people from here and for a presence in the general internet is already an insecure thing. Other person outed not that long ago had a far more secure provider for his address; but still used it for unrelated, personally identifiable, stuff - and was traced that way.
