I think you've hit the nail on the head. Toddlers really enjoy exploring the world around them, and you'll often find them bringing new fascination to ordinary objects.

Even I'm drawn more into the 8-teen crowd, I understand something else about toddlers. One has to understand that at that age entertainment is much less complicated. If you could ever find yourself pacified by merely bouncing a ball against a wall, without inventing some game out of it, then you can get a glimpse of the simple joy a toddler might find in slamming a bathroom door over and again. You just have to learn to get lost in what you're doing.
