my all time favourite version was recorded by local boy Darcy Clay. i can't find it on youtube but here's an original piece, 'Jesus I Was Evil️ ↗', by the same artist.

Darcy Clay had a brief but brilliant career, and sadly died by his own hand following some social indiscretion that apparently brought him great shame. his terminal act, along with the oblique comments and silences surrounding it, have often made me wonder if he was not exposed to the stigma familiar to many of us on this board.

maybe his recording Jolene fits with that. many musicians here are also encyclopaedic musicologists and Clay would almost certainly have been aware of the ten year old Jolene.
