In reply to BL forums flourish while ours decay. posted by Audubon on 2008-December-03 05:16:05 EST, Wednesday
"[a]ll the usual GL forums on the internet are gone or down for maintenance."
...remember that BL/GL is not a dichotomy, nor is it a balanced one. For a variety of reasons, the demand for BL sites is somewhat higher.
"Ironically, the collection of Boy Love forums are still all operating at full throttle and seemingly increasing daily."
That's mostly an illusion. Because the demand/input is higher, a lot of amateur BLs decide to start their own sites/communities. 95% of the time, the host is poorly researched, cheap and hostile. These sites tend to come down within a month - if not three. People do not understand that administrators of groups such as FreeSpirits, VoA, GLG, BLN, Newgon.com which have all handsomely beaten this challenge are hardly going to be publicly bragging about who their hosts are. They do not care to look at the whois info for these sites and tend to be lacking in intelligence. I administrate one of these, and have not received a single private message concerning how to securely host a website. That's very sad, and a great waste.
The GL "evidence" you provide is flawed by the way:
"www.openhands.ws is now a placeholder.
www.closencounters.net is now a placeholder.
www.crossroadsdebate.org closed October 2007
www.pedagora.com Is in french.
commonground.glgarden.org down for maintenance.
www.glgarden.org/index.htm contains no forum.
philia.ws is up, but all the email addresses are bouncing."
Please tell me how half of these are archetypal GL sites as opposed to fence-sitters.
Your BL "evidence" is equally flawed:
"Now contrast this list of dead ends with this prolific list of BL sites who are open wide for business,
freespirits.org/
lifeline.ivan.net/msgboard/
boylandonline.com/
www.ipce.info/ipceweb/
www.boybliss.net/"
Again, please tell me how half of these are either "prolific" or partisan BL sites. Two of them in particular.
What is the deal, my fellow GLs? Where have all of you gone?
The genre has diversified. There are more GLs on line than at any time in web history.
"I sense a conspiracy going on, and I have my theories to explain it. One theory is that comcast and google are now working together to censor the internet."
Most web companies would censor CL. Google has been prolific, but not for its size. This is nothing new, and certainly nothing GL - specific.
