Nice to see someone else who understands my language: I always find myself pondering this issue from an angle that encompasses the spiritual as well as the sociological concerns at work here. Of course, this issue really is a spiritual one in the end.
For me, the biggest concern is how to defend ourselves against a legitimate threat without inadvertently becoming tyrants ourselves.
