A GM ... and a missed opportunity

On Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, my best friend at work brought her 10 y/o old daughter. I've met her before, and frequently help her with her homework, so no eyebrows were raised when I spent a lot of time with her. We (and her mother) went down to our cafeteria for breakfast, and later sat with her at lunch. In between, I found frequent excuses to visit my friend's cubicle.

The missed opportunity: On a recent Monday, I was asking my friend what she had done over the weekend. Among her activities was taking her daughter to a local pool for swim practice. I asked her what time she had been there. When she told me, I wanted to cry. I, too, had been there at that time. But the practice took place after the pool was closed to the public. Knowing that the pool was closed, I had been in the sauna, in the locker room. This girl would look wonderful in a bathing suit, and I had missed an opportunity to see her.
