Like the remaining Nazi warcriminals: what good does it make to bring them to the courts now?

Wouldn't those resources be better spent elsewhere?

When you see people complaining of torture and extermination but cheering arrest warrants and trials of frail 80+ year olds, it doesn't even look like the high moral ground is on the victims. Same here: whatever might have been fair at the time, in time becomes a vendetta.

And the fact remains that his escape was because of the plea bargain turnaround, not because he wasn't willing to make any time at all. I am not a fan of plea bargains, but I am a fan of keeping your word and of due process, and the judge betrayed Polanski which in turn made a mockery of due process.

And Samantha herself has now asked for the charges to be dropped. It is simply not ethical, imho, that a rape charge (or any charge for that matter, but in the case of rape it's especially evident how it denies its aimed purpose to enforce self-body-ownership) is not pressed by and dropped by the victim herself instead of the state.

And it's not like Samantha didn't know alcohol and drugs were being "served on the premises" - I get the same feeling I get with nearly every case of "date rape": the guy might have been a jerk, but the girl put herself in shooting range of jerks.
