I never said that I thought Polanski used the drugs and alcohol in a deliberate attempt to rape Samantha. I understand it was common practice back then, but that doesn't make it any less problematic. He may only have intended to get her "in the mood," but you never can tell how someone will react to those drugs. And Samantha claimed that she was placed in a state of mind where she wasn't able to resist, and she also claims that she did say "no" several times. Polanski should have listened to her.
As I said, I don't think he deliberately intended to commit an act of rape, but when you use drugs to get a girl or woman "in the mood," there is always the chance that something bad may happen. Polanski should have known better, IMO. |
