it has been my experience as well, that many respond to the term "Girl lover" as something different than the term "pedophile" and I think it's because of the negative image that it conjures up. Pedophile is synonymous with child raping killer, and in many minds it's interchangeable. This stigma that is associated with the word is what many people can't get over, and causes those feelings of hate, disgust, and general dislike of that word, and if it is leveled as an accusation against any one of us, this what the general public has in their mind when they think of a "pedophile" but if you use the word "girl lover" or "child lover", the image is a little less negative, in that it causes an image of love and nurturing. In many people's minds though, they can't get over the fact that we find the children sexually attractive. This gives way to lots of negative feelings, and understandably so, since the society teaches us that is wrong to have sex with anyone under 18,(even in locales and states that allow a 16 year to have consensual sex, but there conditions for that) it's a social condition rather than a moral wrongness (one can make the case that having sex outside of marriage is wrong, but those that have no sin cast the first stone!) I think society can agree that "children" under the age of 18, does and are capable of having consensual sex, but if you go as far as saying a child under 13 can have the same choice..then you start to get into a very thorny issue indeed!

Because virtually no one will agree that it is healthy, or even viable choice for a girl/boy that age to have sex. In many cases, I have been argued down over this, that a girl/boy are not capable of having sex at that age(despite the 102,444 cases of girls under the age of 13 that's get pregnant every year on average! and that's just in my state!) but society does not want to talk about it, and certainly don't want an open, honest communication about this at all!
