You are right. Anyone who has been near an intro statistics course could see right through this "study" (and notice how the author doesn't cite anything - that means the study saying this was pulled out of thin air). The problem is that most people haven't and they aren't able to form an independent opinion. This is where the quote "there are lies, damn lies, and statistics" comes into play - for those who believe what any crackpot expert tells them to believe. The number of online postings for "escorts" says nothing about age distribution, let alone who was forced into it or if that varies by age. I have no way of knowing how many people working for Wall Street are axe murderers... see how that works? Of course I don't know that percentage, but it forces anyone reading it to think that a disproportionate number of axe murderers work for Wall Street. The same thing is true for those "estimates" of kids forced into prostitution based on the number of runaways. It is only meant to scare people.
