Kids are routinely way underestimated, but there does need to be recognition of inexperience in the form of guidance and support (without artificially limiting what kids can do).

But... if the value of a person is determined by the broad cultural attitudes and official government policy towards them... then our society doesn't really value kids that much, no matter how much individual people might value their own kids. So I would say that the societal value of kids needs to be raised a ton.
