Craigslist should be avoided. No way to know if the seller isn't just looking to rip you off.

EBay sellers have ratings that tell you how good the seller is. High feedback from a seller that has been there for a long time is very safe. Sometimes you'll be able to get something that is normally expensive for really cheap, if no one else bids on it. You will need to get a Paypal account to complete transactions with most sellers on eBay.

Amazon also has individual sellers, with ratings telling you how good they are, but also sells products themselves. With $20 or $25 minimum order (I forget which), you can get free shipping and no tax (depending on where you live) on things that Amazon sells directly.
