As the original Economist article said, it is the confluence between safe and legal abortion in all the countries above, and people having only one child instead of the large families of previous decades.

And people still ask why I am so against "Modern" values. Without saying that the FLDS is perfect, they are much superior to what we're living under.

And more ironically still, governments are very busy making it illegal to buy out all of those girls. I'd rather have a girl prostituting than dead; and I am sure all of those families wouldn't reject selling a girl they wanted dead anyway. But many people with nothing better to do obviously differ.
