when i was eleven i fell in love with a little girl who must have been about four when i first met her a couple of years before. for some reason we were great friends right from the start, and then i remember suddenly being in love with her. the best time i remember was a long off road trip we did together with our families. it was night time, there wasn't much room in the truck and i was as keen to have her on my knee as she was to be there.

i can remember us whispering together for hours as we lurched over boulders and ground our way thru the thorny scrub. my arms were around her middle, her hair tickling my nose and her bottom bouncing on my excited boyhood. that year we wrote a whole bunch of letters to one another, until i realised it wasn't usual for an 11yo boy to be romancing a 6yo. i got self conscious, and never really spoke to her again.
