Moving Day - a GM

My first post last week seemed pretty well received. I suppose I’m rather blessed in that I have GM’s pretty frequently, and have had the opportunity to develop several relationships with young girls. I’ll try to post a GM every week or so. I don’t think there are enough GM’s on this board (the most recent ones notwithstanding), and I don’t know about you, but reading one really brightens my day. Of course, having them myself brightens my day far more.

So I have a friend who was moving to a new apartment. She asked me to help her move her stuff. I had nothing else to do that day, so I agreed to help her. I always enjoy helping others anyway, so this would be a good opportunity. I never intended for anything special to happen this day. I figured we’d just be moving her stuff onto the truck, and then off again at the new place, and that would be that.

However, the moment I pulled up to her old place, I knew the day surpass all my expectations, for whom did I see, but my friend’s 6-year-old daughter. This girl -- let’s call her Caryn -- is stunningly beautiful. She has shoulder-length blonde hair. Her charming blue eyes penetrate you right to your heart. She has this smile that portrays the joy she has in her own heart, and this laugh that just pulls you into her world. I’d met Caryn a few times before, but never really had much of an opportunity to really get to know her. And so when I saw her this particular morning, I knew I’d have an opportunity to really befriend this girl.

Caryn took a liking to me very quickly. I had been at their house for maybe two minutes when she first asked me to play with her. Well, of course I’d like to play with her. I just love how kids instinctively know those who are “on their side”, so to speak. We hadn’t started moving yet, just hanging out and talking with my friend, the girl’s mom. So we started just having fun, playing fetch with the dog, jumping rope, and just all around having a good time. Eventually, we started moving my friend’s stuff out to the truck. But Caryn still wanted to play. Every trip back to the house we would race to see who got there first -- of course, she usually won :-). We would wrestle with each other between trips. We would sit on each other. She would jump on me when I was lying down to see what kind of response I would have. And then she would help me carry stuff outside.

Damn, I never knew that moving could be so much fun. I never thought I would say this, but the job went by way too quickly. There wasn’t enough stuff to move.

But what really struck me about this girl was how nice and polite she was. You know how some kids are just rude and obnoxious and very strong-willed? Caryn was completely the opposite. She helped me any way she could. She thanked me when I took her boxes out to the truck. There was something about her personality that was just so loveable, so endearing.

She really bonded to me. She took her jump rope and tied it around me like a leash. It took me a while to really figure out why she did this, but then it occurred to me: she wanted to make sure that I was always by her side. She didn’t want me to leave her, even for a moment. Later, as we were going back in for another load of stuff, she stopped and looked at me with these imploring eyes and said, “I like you, Chai.” I just melted. “Thanks,” I responded. “I like you, too.” Then she took hold of my hand and clasped it, smiling and skipping back inside. I was in heaven. I just smiled and skipped alongside her. I tell you, we were the happiest people in the world right then. You could see it in her eyes, in her step. She really adored me, and she appreciated how I could relate to her.

After we finished moving, we had lunch. Caryn sat down and then patted the seat next to her. “Sit here next to me.” I would have it no other way.

Later on, we went hiking in the woods nearby. And once again, she stayed by my side and held my hand. When traversing over some of the steep ridges, she because scared, but I assured her I would not let anything happen to her. I carried her when I needed to. I kept her safe. It was a great feeling. She found a rock and drew a picture of me in the sand. That just really made me feel special.

Finally, when we got back to her new place, we just sat outside in the warm breeze. Sometimes she sat next to me, and sometimes she sat in my lap. And we just talked. About school, about her friends, about her parents. She told me she really liked how, even though I was an adult, I took an interest in her and befriended her. It was a great way to end the evening. When I had to leave, she came up to me and gave me a big hug, the tightest hug she could possibly muster. I was amazed how much affection she had for me. I in turn squeezed her tight in a return hug.

Unlike last story, this one does not have a sad ending. The only unfortunate thing is that due to circumstances, we won’t get to see each other very much. But when we do, she will have a very special place in my heart.
